FINALE TEXTILE SAMPLE
● Assessment involves applying technical skills to create a textile sample inspired by and reflecting "your story."
● Three parts of the assessment:
1. In-class textile construction and surface manipulation samples, including working process and reflections.
2. Creating a textile sample that tells your story through stitching, including the story, design, working process, and reflections.
3. Generating and developing an original print based on "your story," including the story, design, working process, and reflection.
Suggested structure:
I. Textile manipulation sample
1. Indigo dyeing
2. Appliqué
3. Stenciling
4. Embroidery
5. Smocking
6. Knitting
7. Weaving
8. Lino printing
II. Stitch story & textile sample
III. Print generation & development
IV. Assignment reflection
I. Textile manipulation sample
For each part, you will follow the exact same structure:
● Working process:
○ Write the steps to describe your working process with clear images
○ You can also provide formulas for calculating the exact size of the product
● Reflection (500 words):
Example:
I successfully completed an indigo dyeing fabric using the shibori dyeing technique, despite being new to the process. I chose a butterfly clip pattern and soaked the fabric in soda ash for 20 minutes. After dipping the fabrics into the red indigo vat, they are washed and cleaned. The fabric was then placed on a header card. I noted that the butterfly clip pattern was not visible on the inside, and the fabric did not turn green after dipping. I suggest that more clips and dividing folding layers could have been used. The workshop helped me understand the fabric dyeing process and develop my own indigo dyeing patterns. To improve my technique, I plan to collect materials like indigo powder and baking soda and try other patterns.
