  • Requirement: “critically analyze examples of media and communications practice and produce purposeful research that can be used for policy and practice” in the context of an international conference about current Vietnam culture.

  • Format: a single, critical case study of 1,500-2,500 words

C. DETAILED OUTLINE:

  1. INTRODUCTION:

  • Background information on the field your artifact belongs to: 2 sentences (e.g. Vietnamese contemporary film industry)

  • Basic details regarding your artifact (make the reader understand what your unit of analysis is about): 2-3 sentences (e.g. “Face Off 6” facts and relevant info)

  • Insert your research questions and thesis statement (type of single case study, your intended goals for this research, and the frameworks you’re going to use): 3-4 sentences.

Example: This film's semiotics, meaning, and topic make it a good critical case study. How does the movie's semiotics support its message? How has “Face Off 6” depicted Vietnam's social issues and promoted civic values? Semiotic theory and the narrative paradigm will be used to address these research issues in this single case study.
