PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION FOUNDATIONS
In this section, we will revisit the assignment's expectations and the steps necessary to complete the assignment effectively.
1. Assessed criteria:
● Identify, analyze and evaluate different communication artifacts and issues.
● Identify, apply and reflect on effective work practices and strategies for working in small teams.
2. Assignment details:
● Requirement: produce a personal reflection artifact demonstrating your understanding of Media and Communications as a discipline in your own words and its relevance to you both personally and professionally
● Format: a 1,200-word reflection essay or a 10-minute reflection video (for this instruction essay, the essay will be the point of focus)
● Objectives:
- Avoid merely restating what you did throughout the semester. Your lecturers already know about all the concepts, activities, and assignments you would do in any given semester, so they don’t need you to restate this.
- Try to focus on 1-2 things that really stood out to you in doing the course and think about practical ways in which you can further develop your skills, interests, or abilities both personally and professionally.
- A reflection is meant to assess the depth and quality of your thinking. So your insights can be new, unique or creative -- if this is the case for you.
- When writing or filming your reflections, you need to emphasize why you did, what you did.
● Assignment structure: There are multiple ways with which you can approach writing a reflection, namely the DIEP model. However, since the assignment requests an avoidance of repeating course material and generally a deeper understanding of your experience and skills, the structure below is recommended:
- Introduction: 50 words
- Your understanding of media and communication as a major: 300 words
- Learning experience: 300 words
- Skills (hard-soft): 300 words
- Action plan: 200 words
- Conclusion: 50 words
In this step, we will discuss in detail each component and its requirements within the assignment.
1. INTRODUCTION:
This part ideally consists of 2 sentences, the first stating the importance of reflection relating to your journey in the media and communication field, the second setting your thesis statement (what are featured in your essay).
Example: With the Professional Communication Foundations course nears its conclusion, a process of looking back at the journey made is critical to any student studying this course to rationalize their experience. The reflection essay will feature my general improved understanding of my major, learning practice, developed skills and future action plans.
2. REFLECTION ON MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION:
As the name suggests, you should provide both the academic understanding and your renewed understanding of media and communication after you’ve gone through the course content. You must also describe what is expected of a student who follows the media and communication discipline. This section entails 2-3 paragraphs, each one devoting to the following points:
